More than $21 million has been earmarked for 'major resiliency investments' that will 'address flooding and enhance infrastructure along key travel corridors on Long Island’s South Shore,' according to a news release from the governor. Drainage improvements will combat flooding concerns at two low-lying problem spots in Nassau County — Meadowbrook State Parkway at the intersection of Merrick Road at the border of Merrick and Freeport and Wantagh State Parkway at the ramp to Bay Parkway in Wantagh. The sole project in Suffolk will replace the culvert that allows Amityville Creek to flow beneath Merrick Road, raise that roadway and upgrade other infrastructure to improve drainage in the Village of Amityville...The work that will take place over the next few years is 'long-overdue...to protect South Shore communities,' Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-Bayport) said in a statement. 'As coastal flooding becomes a more frequent threat,' Garbarino added, 'it’s essential that Long Island receives its fair share of federal resources to strengthen resiliency and keep our communities safe.' Andrew provided a Congressional Certificate of Recognition to mark this milestone and commended Sun River Health for their outstanding work serving local families. CASEWORK HIGHLIGHT: Delivering VA Benefits The Hauppauge resident’s daughter-in-law reached out to Andrew’s casework team regarding the resident’s Department of Veterans Affairs Aid and Attendance claim. The claim was filed on behalf of a 95-year-old surviving spouse of a wartime veteran. The family had been waiting for more than eight months without any update despite multiple contacts with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Andrew’s casework team intervened, and the claim was fully processed, with monthly benefits beginning at the start of August. Andrew knows how frustrating dealing with bureaucracy can be. That is why he has an entire team dedicated to helping constituents get what they need from the government. If you need help dealing with a federal agency, contact our office and our team will get to work on your case. KEEPING UP WITH CONGRESS Andrew Helps Introduce Bill to Ensure Timely Burials for Veterans Andrew recently helped introduce the Veteran Burial Timeliness and Death Certificate Accountability Act, bipartisan legislation to make sure veterans and their families are treated with dignity. Families have faced unacceptable waits for the Department of Veterans Affairs to certify death certificates when a veteran passes away, sometimes as long as eight weeks. These delays prevent timely burials and hold up survivor benefits. Andrew believes no veteran’s family should be forced to endure long delays at such a difficult time. He is proud to support this commonsense fix that ensures timely burials and strengthens the support system for those who have sacrificed for our country. Thanks for reading!
