Friend,

This summer, local veterans began to hear rumors that the Department of Veterans Affairs intended to close its Stamford clinic. Some veterans were unable to schedule appointments in the Fall, as the clinic's future remained uncertain. Closing this facility would be a disaster for local veterans, requiring them to travel all the way to West Haven or the Bronx in order to seek medical care.
Standing up for the men and women who served our country is among my top priorities, so my staff and I got to work immediately. First, I met with local veterans to reaffirm my commitment to protecting their access to high-quality, local care. Next, alongside my colleagues in the U.S. Senate and Stamford's government center, I pressed the VA for answers.
I'm happy to report that the clinic has now re-signed its lease and will continue to serve local veterans here in Fairfield County. [[link removed]] Though work in Congress can be filled with frustrations and setbacks, local wins like this remind me why I love fighting for our community. It was an honor to lend a hand to those who served our country.
