The Government Accountability Office just found that the Trump administration again violated the Impoundment Control Act by illegally withholding funding, this time, for public school upgrades that could have lowered costs and improved classrooms across the country.[1]
Congress passed the law. The money was appropriated. But Donald Trump is refusing to release the funds. And now, children across America are suffering the consequences.
Trump locked in $4 trillion in tax cuts, primarily benefiting billionaires and corporations. Then he turned around and illegally blocked school funding that Congress already approved. Billionaires get guaranteed handouts. Kids get underfunded classrooms and crumbling schools. Trump isn’t fixing the budget. He’s stealing from public services to reward his wealthy donors.
This is the Trump agenda. Shower the rich with tax breaks, run up the debt, then sabotage the programs working families rely on. Every dollar illegally impounded by Trump is a dollar ripped out of our classrooms, health programs, and public infrastructure. Deferral requests, secret rescission schemes, and website takedowns are all part of Trump’s blueprint to hoard public money to reward his billionaire backers.[2]
It’s back-to-school season. But while students return to under-resourced schools, Trump’s budget games are stalling upgrades while classrooms fall apart. He’s holding our kids’ future hostage to fund tax cuts for rich donors.
Tell Congress to demand the Trump administration release the congressionally approved funding now.
The law is clear that the President cannot block spending just because he disagrees with it. Yet Trump has repeatedly done just that, violating the Impoundment Control Act at least four times just in the last few weeks.
Trump’s allies are poised to reap the rewards of more tax giveaways, funded by illegally withheld dollars that should be paying for teachers, textbooks, and classroom repairs. This is a deliberate wealth transfer from working families to the ultra-rich.
And it doesn’t stop at schools. The same tactics are being used to freeze funds at the EPA, NOAA, the National Science Foundation, and HHS, endangering climate research, healthcare access, and economic security.
If Congress doesn’t act now to hold Trump accountable and demand the immediate release of all withheld funds, this pattern of fiscal hostage-taking will only escalate.
Tell Congress to force Trump to obey the law and demand his administration release the congressionally allocated funds now.
Together, we can expose this corruption, demand accountability, and stop Trump from looting our public funds for billionaire tax breaks.
