Donald Trump is waging an unprecedented war on the judiciary, John.
Since January, Trump and his MAGA officials have verbally attacked judges and openly ignored court orders to advance their harmful agenda.
Most recently, his administration targeted Judge James Boasberg, the chief district judge in Washington, DC, and tried to punish him by filing a misconduct complaint.
This is the same judge who blocked the Trump administration from deporting hundreds of Venezuelan immigrants to an El Salvador megaprison — and it’s the same judge whose orders they defied.
Now, Trump sicced his Department of Justice on Boasberg, claiming he tried to “improperly influence” U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts when Boasberg warned him that this administration may “disregard rulings of federal courts” and trigger “a constitutional crisis.”
A former Republican Justice Department official said it best: Trump is “attempting to eliminate the judicial branch as a check on executive usurpation, overreach, and manipulation.”
Trump has only escalated his war on our courts and the rule of law. Now, it’s on us to fight back. Demand Justice is the group that’s on the ground, doing the work to protect our judicial system and strengthen our democracy.
We are in the halls of Congress pressing senators to reject Trump’s nominees who will let authoritarianism flourish and the Constitution wither. But our work is only as powerful as our grassroots supporters allow it to be.
