BREAKING: California announces new map 
in response to Trump’s power grab in Texas.

California just rolled out its plan to revise its congressional map as a countermeasure to the power grab currently underway in Texas. I wanted to reach out directly to make it absolutely clear where the National Democratic Redistricting Committee stands — and why. 

First things first: Donald Trump can and should call off his gerrymandering scheme and put an end to the crisis he created. But if he continues to move forward, California has a measured response to counteract his blatant power grab in Texas. 

California is pursuing a new map that retains the general structure of the state’s independent commission-drawn map enacted in 2021. And unlike the proposed Texas gerrymander, this map protects the rights of communities of color and keeps communities of interest together.

Not only does this map continue to reflect the will of Californians, but it is also a responsible and responsive approach to the existential threat to democracy that Donald Trump’s actions pose.

The fight over fairness in our democracy is expanding in front of our eyes. This is a moment the NDRC was built for. It will be all hands on deck in the weeks ahead to make sure that the Republican plan to steal power fails and the will of the voters carries the day.
