Back again with another update from the ground here in Texas. Because if you thought the gerrymandering drama was done — buckle up. Here’s the latest news in our fight and why we’re still working hard to raise $15,000 before Monday’s second session kicks off.
When our brave Texas House Dems broke quorum, they stopped Trump’s racist illegal maps dead. It didn’t matter that Greg Abbott and Ken Paxton threatened them with arrests or directed the FBI to literally “hunt them down” — they held the line.
Because we didn’t just stop the maps in Texas, we took the fight national.
And this week, with popular support California announced they will hold a special election to redraw their own congressional map to directly neutralize Trump and Abbott’s scheme.
This is lawmakers and the American people taking a major stand not just for Texas, but for voters across the country. A stand that, frankly, shouldn’t have to be taken and has the potential to set a precedent that could severely weaken our democracy.
Now the battle comes back home with Greg Abbott’s next attempt at a special session slated to kick off on Monday, and the MAGA map is coming back with it.
Our brave Texas Dems put everything on the line to block these proposed Jim Crow gerrymandered maps. They mobilized a national movement to resist Trump’s ongoing assault on minority voting rights across the country.
That took courage. And now we need the resources to fight alongside them as they return home.

Trump’s strategy is simple — ignore standard redistricting timelines, redraw congressional maps in states with Republican controlled legislature to kick out Democrats, suppress voters he doesn’t agree with, and cheat his way into keeping his House majority.

We’ve already seen what they do when we get in the way: target families, abuse state and federal power, and break every rule in the book. We don’t expect the second special session to be any more honest than the first. But we do expect to be ready.
