In Gaza, midwives, counselors, and doctors continue to endure the violence and unlivable conditions to provide lifesaving services and dignity to women and girls.

As they bravely save lives under siege, they do not ask for medals — they ask for resources, access, and the chance to keep saving lives.

Midwife Israa, 31, provides healthcare to mothers and newborns in the Al Awda mobile primary health clinic in Deir Al Balah, Gaza.

Midwives in Gaza risk their lives to care for displaced pregnant women. Some women give birth in tents or even in the open air without privacy or supplies.

Dr. Sabreen , an obstetrician with the Patient’s Friends Benevolent Society, has helped deliver over 400 babies in just one month.

“We’ve supported over 4,000 women and girls, including more than 300 natural deliveries, 117 cesarean sections, and hundreds of gynecological procedures. All this without fuel, food, or medicine.”

At Kamal Adwan Hospital, Dr. Hussam stayed even after he had tragically lost his son in a drone strike just outside the hospital’s doors.

“We stayed because we had no other choice. The patients needed us. We could not abandon them.”

Another health worker told UNFPA that they are providing trauma support in the dark, with no medicine and no food. Despite these dangerous conditions, doctors, nurses, and midwives in Gaza continue to show up and save lives day after day.
