If you haven’t seen it already, there have been massive funding cuts to media and public broadcasting, as part of a $9 billion rescissions package requested by Trump.
Why? Trump and the GOP argue that public media is unfair to conservatives and a waste of taxpayer money, according to NPR.
Reading between the lines: Trump doesn’t like hearing stories and facts from independent news sources that make him look bad, so he defunded them. That’s a clear overreach of power, and we will not stand for it.
Earlier this year, the New Pennsylvania Project launched “Slingshot The Podcast.” And with the recent defunding of pubic news, funding this podcast is more crucial now than ever, especially in our efforts to engage voters ahead of the 2025 elections.
In each episode, NPP’s CEO Kadida Kenner brings her background as a civil rights advocate, offering fresh perspectives on civic engagement, justice, and power. The 6abc data team found more than 16 million Black men were eligible to vote in the 2022 midterm election, but only 38.6% cast a ballot.
This podcast intentionally centers the Black community and engages Black men specifically in the democratic process through culture, sports, and real-world issues.
