Dear Friend,

These past couple of weeks, I’ve been connecting with members of our community across the Fifth District. Since coming to Congress, I promised to lead with co-governance. Every single visit and meeting gives me the opportunity to learn more about my constituents, the challenges you face as well as the hopes and dreams you have yourself, your families and friends. I will continue to fight to ensure that you and our neighbors have the resources and support we need to thrive. Here’s a closer look at what’s been happening across the district:

Affordable Housing for Veterans Ribbon Cutting

This week, I was proud to be in Robbinsdale for the ribbon cutting of Robin, a new 14-unit apartment building for veterans exiting homelessness created by the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans. I secured $750,000 in Community Project Funding to help make this renovation possible and it was incredible to see those efforts come to life. This project is proof of what’s possible when federal, state, and local partners work together. Our veterans have sacrificed so much for this country; the least we can do is ensure they have a safe place to call home.

Immigration Roundtable

I hosted a roundtable with attorneys from the local chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) to hear directly from those on the front lines of our immigration system. The attorneys shared updates on what they are seeing across ICE, USCIS, CBP, and immigration courts. In a moment when the Trump administration and Republicans in Congress's cruel and destructive immigration policies are escalating, these legal experts are working tirelessly to defend the rights of those most affected. Their insights will help guide my work in Congress and ensure our community’s needs remain front and center.

Fighting for the Fifth –Constituent Casework Success Story

It was a joy to meet with Hibo and her son Abdilahi. My team has worked with Hibo since 2023 to reunite them, and Abdilahi is finally at his new home in Minneapolis. Moments like this are why I am so honored to serve my constituents.

If you or anyone you know in the 5th District has an issue with federal government services, we are here to help—whether on immigration, Social Security claims, Veterans benefits, or more. You can call our office at 612-333-1272 or visit http://omar.house.gov for assistance.

Youth Advisory Council Applications

Minnesota's 5th District's Youth Advisory Council is a unique opportunity for students in grades 9-12 to engage directly with my office, gain insight into the legislative process, and have a real voice in conversations that impact your generation. We are taking applications for the 2025-26 academic year.

If you are a high school student, this is your chance to build leadership skills, explore civic engagement, and connect with peers who care about creating a better future for our communities. Visit https://omar.house.gov/yac for more information and to submit your application.

Deadline to apply: Friday, September 12th, 2025
Applicants will be notified of their selection in late September.
