Growing up in Mississippi during a time of segregation and school integration, I faced some of the worst of what our state flag represented.

I am so proud to give you this update.

Mississippi is changing! The state flag is coming down. Today, our state legislators helped usher in a new era for Mississippi — one that is more inclusive, equitable, and prosperous. The final votes will be tomorrow.

No longer will we live under a flag bearing the confederate battle emblem — a symbol of hate that harkens back to slavery. For the people who have been fighting for changes like this for so long, and especially for Black Mississippians, it’s hard to put into words how important this victory is.

Growing up in Mississippi during a time of segregation and school integration, I faced some of the worst of what our state flag represented. But I truly believe that Mississippi’s story is one of progress, one of change — and that’s why I’ve never given up on being a part of the progress.

With this historic change, we are ushering in a new era for Mississippi. Mississippians — Black, Brown, white, young and old — are energized, ready for change, and ready to move our state forward.

A new Mississippi isn’t just possible — it’s happening before our eyes. Will you chip in $10, or whatever you can afford right now, so that our campaign can keep up the momentum for a better and brighter Mississippi? We don’t get what we don’t fight for.

If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:

I cannot wait to see Mississippi’s flag taken down, and a new, more inclusive flag raised. Together, we can create a Mississippi that everyone can be proud of.

Thank you for everything you do.
