Dear Friend,

I hope you are doing well.

As your elected representative, it is an honor to serve you and fight against the current attacks on our democracy.

Donald Trump has deployed the National Guard to Washington, D.C. I join folks in the nation’s capital and across the country pushing back against this unconstitutional and authoritarian move.

Here in Texas, the fight against illegal redistricting in continues. After President Trump said he is “entitled to five more seats” in Texas, Governor Abbott launched a redistricting effort that robs black and brown communities of their voice in Congress. But the fight is not over—I stand alongside my Democratic colleagues in Congress and Texas to keep fighting against Trump’s illegal power grab.

While there is a lot going on and many people are feeling discouraged right now, I believe that with our voices things will get better. We’ve won this fight before. Thank you for speaking up!

As always, if I can be of any assistance to you, please call my office in San Antonio at (210) 348-8216 or my office in Washington at (202) 225-3236.

90th Anniversary of the Social Security Act

Yesterday marked 90 years since the Social Security Act was passed into law to give seniors, individuals with disabilities, and many families a lifeline.

Many of you know that my grandmother came to Texas as an orphan and worked her whole life as a maid, a babysitter, and a cook. She never had a bank account and during the last years of her life she relied on her social security check to survive.

Unfortunately, that continues to be the case for many people. And with recent attacks from this administration on Social Security, things are getting harder for recipients and federal workers.

Thank you to the local labor leaders in San Antonio who are fighting for Social Security now and for future generations. In Congress, I am fighting for policies that help our community.

Redistricting Fight Continues

Texas state Democrats shared that they are willing to return to Texas to keep fighting. Now, it’s up to Governor Abbott to decide if he will choose to bend to Trump’s will or stand up for everyday Texans.

I am proud of our state representatives for standing their ground and breaking quorum. We will continue fighting until our voices are heard.

Constituent Meetings

One of the best things I get to do as a member of Congress is meeting with folks from San Antonio and Texas working to make our community a better place.

This past week, I met with people who are leading the fight for our veterans and for peace, folks committed to our kids’ success, and those ensuring our community has access to quality healthcare.

Thank you for taking the time to meet and share your work with me. I look forward to meeting more of you soon. If you would like to schedule a meeting with me, email your request to [email protected] or submit this form.

Trump to Direct U.S. Military to Target Foreign Cartels

Congress has not authorized the use of the military in Mexico. This would be illegal and counterproductive.

The administration must immediately brief the U.S. Congress on this dangerous proposal before we end up in a war with our neighbor, ally, and largest trading partner.

Fight Against Trump's Tomato Tariffs

Texas families can’t afford higher grocery bills. That is why I led the Texas delegation in demanding that the Trump admin reverse its decision to levy a 17% tariff on tomatoes from Mexico. Instead, we should work to lower costs and strengthen our ties with our largest trading partner.

Future of Democracy in the Indo-Pacific

Much is at stake for the future of democracy in Asia, the Indo-Pacific, and around the world.

Today, I introduced a House Resolution with bipartisan support recognizing the Japanese Diet’s new caucus dedicated to upholding democracy in the Indo-Pacific.

As co-chair of the U.S.-Japan Caucus, I am glad to see strides in strengthening democratic governance abroad.

That's all for this week. Thank you for staying in touch and for speaking out. I am proud to represent my hometown and will continue to fight to make our voices heard in Congress.

If you’d like to stay up to date on what I am up to, follow me on X, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Threads, and BlueSky.

Talk soon.

Sincerely,
