Hello friends,
Last month, Donald Trump and Washington Republicans passed one of the most harmful pieces of legislation I have seen during my time in Congress. I voted against the One Big Beautiful Bill Act — otherwise known as the Trump Tax Hike — every single time it was considered on the House floor. But, in the end, Washington Republicans banded together with Trump and betrayed New Jerseyans and the American people. As we enter this new chapter of the Trump Administration, I want to help you understand exactly what this bill means for you, your family, and our state.
Healthcare
This law directly attacks affordable and accessible healthcare. 410,000 New Jerseyans will lose their health insurance entirely, from combined Medicaid and Affordable Care Act cuts while failing to extend critical ACA tax credits. These changes will devastate our health system — New Jersey will lose $3.6 billion in federal Medicaid funding and the loss of ACA tax credits will increase health care costs for a family of four by nearly $4,200.
Grocery Prices
Not only is this administration doing nothing about the rising cost of groceries, they are gutting the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which provides food benefits to low-income families to support their grocery budget and expand access to healthy foods. In New Jersey, 114,000 families will be impacted by this cut.
SALT
I have been fighting against the State And Local Tax deduction cap (SALT) since I entered office, and we finally had an end in sight — the SALT cap was set to expire entirely in September. Instead, Washington Republicans stepped in and renewed the SALT cap for another 10 years: increasing taxes on New Jerseyans by over $30 billion.
Utility Costs
Costs across the board are going up, and Washington Republicans don’t care. By repealing the tax credits for clean energy, Trump is forcing household electricity costs to go up in New Jersey, with families paying over $200 more per year than they otherwise would have had this bill not passed.
Housing Affordability
This bill will add $3.3 Trillion to the United States deficit. This outrageous increase will hit New Jersey homeowners, driving mortgage rates and forcing the average homeowner to pay an additional $150 a month.
I voted NO on the Trump Tax Hike, and I will continue to stand up and fight for New Jerseyans while my spineless Republican colleagues attack the Americans they represent.
