A Message from Gabe:

Greetings Rhode Islanders,

Yesterday, we marked the 90th anniversary of Social Security, which has enabled generations of seniors to live out their golden years with dignity. In Rhode Island's First Congressional District alone, more than 114,000 individuals rely on Social Security to cover essentials such as groceries, housing, and health care.

I honored this occasion by visiting the Barrington Peck Adult Enrichment Center. I spoke directly with seniors about how Social Security is a lifeline. I heard their fears about how President Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans' policies are undercutting this critical program so many rely on to make ends meet.

Congressman Amo hears from Rhode Islanders who rely on Social Security.

President Trump and Elon Musk's policies pushed backdoor cuts at the Social Security Administration by slashing staff, closing offices, gutting phone services, and driving up wait times for beneficiaries. The Republicans' Big, Ugly Law moves the trust fund toward insolvency sooner, leading to potential benefit cuts for retirees earlier than expected. To add insult to injury, when talking about provisions included in the Big, Ugly Law, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said: "In a way, it is a backdoor for privatizing Social Security."

Social Security is an earned benefit that Americans have paid into and deserve. In Congress, I'm working to protect and expand Social Security by advocating for the passage of the Social Security 2100 Act. This measure would boost Social Security benefits for millions of Americans by making sure the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share. Additionally, I helped pass the Social Security Fairness Act into law in 2024 to repeal unfair penalties robbing educators, first responders, and public service workers of their hard earned Social Security benefits.

I will continue working to protect Social Security from Republicans' policies attacking it and ensure every American can retire in dignity and security for generations to come.

Sincerely,

Member of Congress

Served up lunch for Providence seniors at Fox Point Manor with Meals on Wheels Rhode Island to hear about struggles with affording food and speak about my work in Congress.

46% of Rhode Island SNAP households include an older adult or person with a disability.

Trump's Big, Ugly Law guts SNAP and will increase hunger.

I'm working in Congress to roll back these cuts and make sure programs like Meals on Wheels can keep delivering meals.

Celebrated National Health Center Week with the Rhode Island Health Center Association and the dedicated professionals serving over 200,000 Rhode Islanders in the face of Republicans' Big, Ugly Law that threatens the essential care they provide.

I am working to reverse Trump’s policies cutting Medicaid and ensure access to high-quality health care for all.

Thanks to the advocates and caregivers who joined the Rhode Island Alzheimer's Association's Coffee with Congress to discuss the harms of Trump’s cuts to Alzheimer's research and Medicaid.

We need to fund the National Institute of Health to find cures and roll back Republicans' policies cutting essential care.

Happy 350th birthday, Little Compton!

Thrilled to speak with community members about my work in Congress and celebrate Little Compton’s unique history with the crowning of 104 year-old Sydney Tynan as the town’s Queen, performances by the Goulart Family Singers, and even 350 homemade cupcakes!

Grateful to honor the heroism of Woonsocket’s Richard Fazzio as he received the Bob Dole WWII Leadership Award.

Richard enlisted at 17, and at 18, piloted a landing craft onto Omaha Beach during D-Day, helping America establish a foothold in the fight against fascism. He will always have the gratitude of our nation.

Celebrated National Farmers Market Week with some locally and sustainably grown food from Wishing Stone Farm and Little Friend in Little Compton!

It was a pleasure to speak about my work in Congress to support local agriculture.

Rhode Island is home to the largest, most advanced sailing dinghy factory in North America!

To inform my work in Congress, I toured Fulcrum Speedworks in East Providence to see how they are growing their workforce and innovating composite boat technology.

Spent time with Anna Wu, a Rhode Island SEIU home care worker from Pawtucket, dedicated to her essential caregiving role.

I am working hard in Congress to fight against Trump's policies cutting Medicaid and uplift caregivers in our community.

Countering Trump's Policies in the Courts

The Trump administration's policies are baffling judges and the administration continues to lose in court as people hurt by his policies stand up to his unconstitutional acts. In 28 weeks, the Trump administration has been hit with over 371 lawsuits as Americans directly challenge Trump’s policy agenda.

Recent Courtroom Wins:

FOURTH JUDGE BLOCKS TRUMP’S BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP ORDER — Another federal judge issued a nationwide block of Trump’s birthright citizenship order, following an amicus brief I filed in a similar case filed in the Fourth Circuit.

COURT UPHOLDS BLOCK ON TRUMP’S INDISCRIMINATE IMMIGRATION RAIDS — A three-judge panel upheld a lower court’s restraining order, blocking the Trump administration from allegedly targeting people exclusively based on their race and whether they spoke Spanish.

TRUMP's ASYLUM BAN BLOCKED — A three-judge panel issued an immediate block of Trump’s asylum ban, directing U.S. border agents to stop deporting migrants who face immediate danger in their home countries.

JUDGE BLOCKS NIH FROM ELIMINATING HEALTH RESEARCH GRANTS — The National Institutes of Health was blocked from terminating 323 grants focused on LGBTQ+ health and HIV research.

TRUMP CANNOT REALLOCATE BILLIONS FROM DISASTER PREVENTION — A federal judge blocked Trump's policies which would have robbed billions of dollars from the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities program, which mitigates disaster risks through infrastructure improvements.

Advancing United States Support for Ukraine Against Putin's Aggression
Image
CLICK HERE TO WATCH: Congressman Gabe Amo calls on President Trump to support our ally, Ukraine.

I joined CNN's News Central with Jessica Dean to call on President Trump to have Ukraine's back. The United States must support our democratic partner and ensure Putin faces consequences for his aggression against the Ukrainian people.

Trump’s inconsistent policies are not an effective strategy to end this war. The President's policies have failed to guarantee that the voice of our democratic partner is put first in this discussion. The administration needs to reverse course, support our partner Ukraine, and end this horrific war.
