Dear John,

This week, I attended the reopening of the new and improved Rambling River Center in Farmington. And folks, this project has been a long time coming. It’s been in the works for a while, and it’s taken help from local leaders, elected officials, members of the Farmington Parks and Rec Board and the Rambling River Center Advisory Board to make this state-of-the-art community center a reality.

Eight years ago, the City of Farmington completed a community survey that found residents wanted a more inviting, more accessible and safer space for everyone – especially Farmington’s seniors. I heard this ask loud and clear.

That’s why I worked in Congress, alongside local leaders and community partners, to secure $750,000 in federal funding for this project.

The reopening of the Rambling River Center is a strong reminder of what good government looks like – local, state and federal leaders working together to deliver real, tangible results for our constituents.

It’s also a reminder of what kinds of projects we should be spending Minnesotan’s hard-earned tax dollars on. We should be investing in projects that make life better for folks back home – and this project is a perfect example of that. It’s a long-term investment that will not only serve generations of Minnesotans to come – but will also boost the local economy of Farmington by attracting new businesses to the area.

I’m so proud of this community space and honored to have helped this vision come to life. I promise to always work to make projects like this one happen for Minnesota.

Here’s what else I’ve been up to this week:

Working to combat substance abuse disorders and improve mental health outcomes

It was great to welcome Lily Geyer, Miss Minnesota Teen, to my Mental Health and Substance Abuse Disorder Advisory Council meeting.

Substance abuse and mental health crises are too often overlooked amongst Minnesota’s youth – but working with young people, like Lily, allows us to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health challenges and open up important conversations.

Meeting with MS advocates

I met with Multiple Sclerosis advocates this week to discuss how we can continue to fight for research funding and resources to find a cure for this devastating disease.

Sitting down with Minnesota’s future leaders

This week, I had the chance to sit down with interns from both my Eagan and Washington D.C. offices to chat about their experiences and their future goals.

Behind the scenes:

This summer has been filled with hard work in DC fighting for Minnesotans rights and benefits – but Cheryl and I have still found some time for some summer fun. Besides hitting the Lynx games, we’ve had a few chances to get out on the water and play with the pup and grandkids.

There’s nothing like a Minnesota summer!
