Hi, it’s Philadelphia DA Larry Krasner.
This week, I sat down for an interview with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins. She asked me about Donald Trump’s recent decision to send the National Guard into Washington, D.C. against the city’s wishes, and his threat to do the same in other cities.
My response is simple: There is no indication that President Trump likes public safety. He’s a convicted criminal himself. He pardons criminals who assault police officers. He’s not in favor of law-abiding behavior or public safety.
But he is in favor of power. He is in favor of fascism. He is in favor of ending democracy. And what he’s trying to do here is not normal.
Now he may think he has a right to send in troops who aren’t even trained in this kind of work. But legally, he has no right to do this. And he better not try it in Philly.
As I said to him in November of 2024, he can f— around and find out if he decides to mess with our city.
