We held a huge town hall in Bakersfield, California, last night!

NNU - Medicare for All!

Last night, we held a huge town hall in Bakersfield, California — one of the most competitive congressional swing districts, with the most Medicaid recipients in the country — to discuss the Trump administration’s cuts to our health care and how we fight back.

300 people came together to attend this event just weeks after Rep. David Valadao lied to his constituents and voted to cut nearly $1 trillion from Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, and other federal health programs. Now, we’re on a mission to hold him accountable.

This town hall, cosponsored by 24 unions and local organizations, was a great success. We grounded ourselves by hearing from nurse leaders about what these cuts will mean for patients and for all of us. We heard from a panel of powerful community leaders with organizations like ACLU Southern California, Dolores Huerta Foundation, the California Teachers Association (CTA), United Domestic Workers of America (UDW), and Health Access California. We also heard from local elected leaders about how we can fight back in California.

Our most important next step is to make sure as many people as possible know about the upcoming cuts, which is why we’re hosting three canvass events for nurses and allies to get out and talk to our neighbors.

As part of our nationwide efforts to knock doors on this issue, we’ll be going out into communities across the Central Valley and talking to our neighbors about what these cuts mean and how we can hold Republicans like Rep. Valadao accountable for supporting them.

Will you take the next step and help us spread the word by liking and sharing the video of last night’s town hall with your network?
