Friend,
On this day, thirteen years ago, the first DACA application was accepted — opening up a world of possibilities for thousands of young people across the country.
Since then, our communities have withstood a decade of attacks by anti-immigrant officials that have tried at every turn to rip apart our communities and destroy the program. From the steps of the Supreme Court in 2020 to the 5th Circuit Court just last year, it’s been us – immigrant youth, allies, everyday neighbors, and friends – who have kept DACA alive through our resilience and tenacity.
Today's anniversary serves as a wake-up call for Congress that DACA is being dismantled right in front of us. From California to Texas, ICE has been unlawfully abducting DACA recipients. Just last week, Xóchitl Santiago, a DACA recipient and beloved community organizer, was detained in El Paso despite presenting a valid DACA work authorization card.
With ICE and CBP repeatedly violating the protections afforded under DACA, Congress must take urgent action before all that is left is a shell of the program that immigrant youth and our allies won 13 years ago. ✍️Send a letter to your members of Congress today to demand permanent protections for the millions of immigrants who power our country and the immediate release of thousands more currently missing from our communities:

DACA recipients and tens of thousands of immigrant youth without DACA continue to face escalating threats to their safety, rights, and lives. Without permanent protections in place, more and more of the people who power this country — workers, students, parents — will continue to be torn from our communities.
Congress cannot sit by while millions of lives are at risk. Demand Congress bring our neighbors back and stop the abduction of more of our immigrant loved ones!
In unity,
Carolina and the rest of the UWD team
