Health care is already too expensive for many Alabamians — and unless Congress acts soon, it’s about to get much worse.

Our latest fact sheet shows how health costs will soar in 2026 if Congress doesn’t act now.

More than 400,000 Alabamians rely on enhanced premium tax credits to afford coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace (HealthCare.gov). These tax credits have made health insurance more affordable and accessible — especially here in Alabama, where leaders have refused to expand Medicaid. That means we rely more heavily on HealthCare.gov to keep our communities covered.

But these enhanced tax credits are set to expire at the end of this year — and the consequences will be devastating. Click here to add your name to the petition to stop premium hikes.

What’s at stake?

  • Without action, the average Alabamian’s healthcare.gov insurance premium would increase by a staggering 93%.
  • As a result, about 130,000 Alabamians could lose health insurance, which would shrink our economy by $1.14 billion and cost the state 10,000 jobs in 2026.
  • The biggest burden would fall on older adults and people with lower incomes, pushing even more Alabamians into the uninsured category.

We can’t let that happen.

Add your voice now: Tell Congress to extend the enhanced premium tax credits and protect health care access for Alabama families.
