Dear Friend,
My name is Camille, and in April of 2026, I’m supposed to marry the love of my life, Officer James Brennand.
But right now… I’m terrified that instead of standing with me at the altar, James could be sitting in a prison cell.
In just two months, he goes to trial for charges that should never have been filed. He’s a decorated Army veteran and dedicated San Antonio police officer. His only “crime” was doing his job—protecting the people he swore an oath to serve.
James has spent his life serving others, but now he’s the one who needs help.
The prosecutor in this case doesn’t care about the truth. He’s bowing to politics and the anti-police mob. And if he wins, James will lose everything — his freedom, his career, and our future together.
I’m asking you — from the bottom of my heart — to please help us fight back.
The National Center for Police Defense is covering James’s legal defense and making sure his side of the story is heard in court. But trials are expensive, and October is coming fast.
We can’t do this alone.
Please, will you chip in today to help save James’s freedom and our future together?
On October 1st, 2022, James was on patrol when he spotted a maroon BMW late at night in San Antonio. He turned on his emergency lights, but the driver sped off, dangerously cutting off another vehicle before racing onto the highway.
Per department policy, James didn’t pursue, but he ran the plates and found they didn’t match the car. He believed it was stolen and that’s why the driver fled.
The very next night, James was called to a disturbance outside a McDonald’s. That’s when he saw it again—the same BMW from the night before. Knowing it could take off again, he called for backup but approached before other officers could arrive.
He opened the door and ordered the driver, later identified as Erik Cantu Jr., to step out. Instead, Cantu threw the car in reverse, slamming the door into James and dragging him backwards.
In that split-second, James made the decision he was trained to make when his life was in danger. He fired his weapon. The passenger was unharmed, and Cantu survived.
Since then, Cantu has been arrested four times. Charges like assaulting an officer and evading detention have been dropped.
And now, he’s suing James and the city — while James is the one facing charges of aggravated assault by a public servant and deadly conduct. If convicted, he could face five years to life in prison.
This is the man I love. And now an anti-police District Attorney is trying to destroy him to score political points.
We are fighting with everything we have to clear James’s name, but this legal battle is crushingly expensive — and the trial is just weeks away. The National Center for Police Defense has been our lifeline, covering his legal defense, but they can’t do it alone.
I’m asking you, from the bottom of my heart, to please help us. Every single dollar you give will go directly toward saving James’s freedom and our future together.
This fight is personal for me. I want to marry the man I love, not visit him behind bars.
Thank you for standing with us,
Camille
