Back in June, 270 staff at the Environmental Protection Agency signed a letter to director Lee Zeldin criticizing the Trump Administration for politicizing the agency and undermining public faith in science.
What did Zeldin do? Naturally, he suspended 139 hardworking civil servants as punishment for speaking their conscience.
This is an open-and-shut violation of the First Amendment. So, this week, I led 104 House Democrats in our own strongly-worded letter to Zeldin, demanding he reinstate all 139 employees immediately.
I get that actions like this can seem, frankly, a little underwhelming. My counterpoint: They serve as a reminder to Trump (and the people openly committing crimes in his name) that we ARE watching, and we WILL hold them accountable.
My work on Capitol Hill is only a small part of the larger equation. I’m also speaking out online, in the press, and at public events across Illinois.
I'm counting on you to get in on the action, too: braving tough conversations, joining protests, attending town halls, or even running for local office.
Of course, if you’re itching to make a difference right now, there's never a bad time to invest in our campaign's efforts to hold Trump’s enablers accountable. Can I count on you to chip in ANY amount today?
In this together,
Sean Casten
