August 2025
Hello,
Welcome to the August edition of my e-newsletter.
Update on city expansion
It is worth having a look in detail at the proposals the Mayor of Leicester has made to swallow up Oadby, Wigston, Great Glen, Newton Harcourt, Stretton Hall and the Strettons. One of his motivations for coming out so far is to include the new town (the big orange area) and other developments - once they are built, places like Burton Overy, Kings Norton and Gaulby will be touching the built-up edge of what would then be the city of Leicester.
No one I speak to locally wants this. But the Mayor is pushing very hard for this.
I will post a link below to the document he is using to lobby the Labour government to expand the city.
It you haven't signed the petition against this, please do - there is a link below. Meanwhile I will continue to press Labour Ministers to listen to local people.

Congratulations to Cllr Paul Bremner
Last month, a by-election took place in the Logan ward of Market Harborough, and I’m pleased to share that the Conservative candidate, Paul Bremner, won the seat from the Liberal Democrats. Paul’s victory means the Lib Dem-led administration on Harborough Council has lost its majority. This change will give opposition councillors a stronger voice to hold the Council to account - particularly on the Local Plan, which proposes thousands of new houses in our area, despite us already building at a much higher rate than most parts of the country.
Paul, who lives locally and has previously served on the council, hit the ground running after his win. I met with him soon afterwards to discuss the broken give-way chicanes on Fairfield Road. Together, we have written to the County Council about getting them repaired, as well as addressing the gravel-covered cycle paths alongside the road, which currently pose a hazard to cyclists.
Q&A with pupils at Brocks Hill
I recently visited Brocks Hill Primary School Primary School in Oadby to take questions from Year 6 pupils and the School Parliament. There were some great questions on a range of local and national topics.
Naseby Square
Last month I dropped into the official opening of the new housing at Naseby Square in Market Harborough. I met the new residents who were delighted with their new homes. It’s been quite a process getting to this point, but the the it’s a huge improvement on the old garage site.

I recently made a film with Phoebe who lives in London. She has just had her first baby, but many people her age aren’t able to. It’s a huge problem and one we have to solve. The film features me (aged 46), Phoebe (aged 29) and Emina (age 0).
