Ok friends — big news: Gavin Newsom has just called a special election in California for this November 4th.
What does that mean? Here’s what you need to know:
Over in Texas, Republicans are attempting an unprecedented mid-decade redistricting — something that’s never been done before — because Donald Trump knows that if it’s a fair fight in the midterms, the GOP will lose.
So Trump basically told Texas Governor Greg Abbott that he has to draw new congressional maps so they can get five more Republican House seats.
Now, a quick aside: I think every state should have independent redistricting like we have here in California. In fact, House Democrats actually tried to pass legislation that says every state has to have independent redistricting. But unfortunately, that’s not the situation we’re in.
If we can’t all play by the good rules, then at least we should all be playing by the same rules.
So that’s what we’re going to do.
On November 4th, California voters will have the opportunity to stand up to Donald Trump and say that if the GOP is going to change the maps to tilt the balance of power, Democrats will fight fire with fire.
We can’t just roll over in the face of GOP schemes and power grabs. We need to stand up and fight for our democracy. We need to do everything we can to make sure EVERYONE in this country is represented, because that’s what Democrats stand for.
