Forest Walk & Tree Talk at Autumn View Preserve

Date: Friday, August 22 

Time: 10 AM-11:30 AM 

Location: Autumn View Preserve at the end of Autumn View Lane (formerly Giles Road), Boothbay Harbor, ME 

Host: Boothbay Region Land Trust 

Investigate the wonders of our local forests while exploring BRLT’s newest preserve during an informative walk with Maine Forest Service District Forester Jared Gregory. This walk will focus on tree identification, while branching into broader topics such as forest ecology, historical land use, silviculture, and wildlife habitat. Jared’s flexible, conversational style invites questions and curiosity. This is a great opportunity to deepen your understanding of Midcoast Maine’s woodlands, learn practical tree ID tips, and explore one of our newest protected spaces. 

This walk will be approximately 1 mile in length over uneven terrain. Please wear sturdy shoes and bring bottled water.

Forestry Walk - Benedicta

Bureau/Program: Inland Fishery & Wildlife & Maine Forest Service 

Date: Thursday, September 4 

Time: 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM 

Location: 60 Lawler Ridge Road, Benedicta 

Join Joseph Roy, IF&W’s private lands wildlife biologist, for a guided walk and discussion on how different landscapes within a wooded setting can create habitat for a variety of wildlife. Joe will also discuss the importance of forested land for wildlife connectivity. Maine Forest Service District Forester Lauren Ouellette will be on site to speak about different forestry practices and management for a healthy and productive landscape. 

Participants will need to be able to walk distances and on uneven terrain. The Class is free, but pre-registration is appreciated.

Spruce Budworm Tour

Event Type: Workshop/Training 

Hosted by Maine Forest Service and Maine Woodland Owners: Experts in spruce budworm and forestry will lead an easy-to-access woods tour to compare untreated and treated areas for spruce budworm. Learn about the growing spruce budworm populations and the upcoming cost share program for 2026 treatments. Join us for door prizes, Forester and Pesticide credits, and an opportunity to chat directly with experts about spruce budworm. Parking will be available on the dirt road immediately off the pavement and the tour will start right on the paved road. No registration required. 

Can't attend the whole event? A staffed information table will be available for those who want to stop in and learn the basics.

Invasive Plant Educational Workshop - Dayton

Date: September 9, 2025

Location: Andy's Agway/Cole Farm Maple, 13 Cole Farm Road, Dayton, Maine 04005 

Event Type: Workshop/Training 

Participants will learn about Invasive plant biology, ecological impacts, identification, fundamental concepts of invasive plant management and related state and federal programs in classroom and field settings. 

Each participant will receive an Invasive Plant Field Guide and lunch 

(Outdoor Identification sessions will be held rain or shine, so plan accordingly.)

2025 Forestry Field Day

Host: Maine Tree Farm Program, Maine Woodland Owners, Maine Forest Service 

Date: Saturday, September 6 

Time: 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM 

Location: 117 Bowman Road, Cornville, Maine 

Join fellow community members and industry professionals at the 2025 Forestry Field Day. Participants can attend a variety of field tours, such as “Ruts, Routes, and Runoff” with Tom Gilbert from the Maine Forest Service or “Libby Maple's Forest Management” with Jon Doty from Two Trees Forestry. In addition, there will be numerous demonstrations, ranging from firewood processing to tree identification and measurement practices. The event will also feature recognition of the 2025 Outstanding Tree Farmers of the Year: Jay and Kathryn Libby. 

Please note that Forestry Field Day is an outdoor event held rain or shine. Field tours may involve off-trail walking over uneven terrain. Attendees are encouraged to dress appropriately and bring suitable equipment such as sturdy footwear, weather-appropriate clothing, and water.
