When you look at Rep. Lori McCann’s record, you don’t see a conservative fighter. You see a Republican in Name Only (RINO), plain and simple. The numbers don’t lie. She scores a 52.4% (F) on the Idaho GOP Platform Scorecard [ [link removed] ]. The Idaho Freedom Foundation’s [ [link removed] ]
Freedom Index puts her at 51.4% (F), and her spending score is an abysmal 18.8% (F). That’s not conservative leadership. That’s voting like a Democrat most of the time and spending like one, too.
Voting Against the Library Bills
When conservatives brought forward bills to protect kids from obscene materials in schools and public libraries, McCann sided with the Left. She voted against HB 314 in 2023 and against HB 710 in 2024, two major “library porn” bills that would have stopped taxpayer-funded institutions from making harmful materials available to minors. Instead of protecting kids, she chose to protect libraries. That’s not standing up for Idaho families. That’s folding under pressure from the library lobby.
Censured by Her Own Party
This isn’t just me saying it. Multiple Republican county central committees have formally censured Lori McCann. Latah County, Nez Perce County, and Lewis County Republicans have all rebuked her for repeatedly voting against the GOP platform. The list of bad votes includes the library bills, a drag performance restriction, a vaccine prohibition, election integrity measures, and more. When your own party has to call you out by name, multiple times, it says a lot.
The Tampon Dispenser Bill
McCann also co-sponsored a 2023 bill to put taxpayer-funded tampon and pad dispensers in public school bathrooms statewide. The program’s price tag was around $735,000 to install the dispensers and another $300,000 each year to keep them stocked. And here’s an important detail: throughout the bill presentation process, other legislators had to tell her to add language specifying “female bathrooms only.” Without that, the bill could have opened the door for tampons in boys’ restrooms. The fact that she didn’t think to make that limitation from the start speaks volumes about where her head is on these cultural issues.
Opposing School Choice
While many Republicans are fighting to give parents more control over their children’s education, McCann has been crystal clear that she’s against it. She has opposed any effort to let public education dollars follow the student to private or home schools. Her position is that public education must come first, period. That’s the talking point of the teachers’ unions, not the Idaho GOP platform.
The Bottom Line
Lori McCann’s record is littered with votes and positions that put her at odds with Idaho conservatives. She’s failed multiple GOP scorecards, been censured by her own party, opposed bills to protect children from obscene material, pushed taxpayer-funded tampon dispensers in schools, and sided with the education establishment against school choice.
If Idaho Republicans in District 6 want representatives who will actually stand up for conservative values, Lori McCann’s record makes it clear — she’s not one of them.
Luckily, District 6 has a choice!
Thankfully, Colton Bennett [ [link removed] ]is challenging RINO McCann again. He would’ve won the last race had it not been for a spoiler the previous time around. It may be early, but it’s time to support the only conservative in this race. Here is a link to his website to where you can donate to help Colton beat leftism in District 6 and in Boise.
