1. CAROLINA JOURNAL: Lawsuit Revived After Statute of Limitations for Detransitioners Extended

“Prisha Mosley, a North Carolina woman who had medical sex-transition services to appear male and has now detransitioned, will file a motion to reinstate her July 2023 lawsuit, which was cleared to proceed in April 2024.

‘This case isn’t just about me — it is about accountability for every individual who was sold irreversible and life-altering lies,’ Mosley said in a news release. ‘I am incredibly grateful that HB 805 has given me a second chance to be heard and to seek justice for the pain that I have had to endure. A longer statute of limitations is only fair and opens the pathway to justice for many victims, as recent studies and detransitioners alike say that the average time it takes to recognize the transition as harmful is seven years.’”

2. WSJ: Josh Stein’s Bad Choice on School Choice

“Democratic governors are facing a political dilemma on school choice, and let’s hope most do better than the double talk last week by North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein. The GOP’s ‘big beautiful bill’ creates a federal funding stream for school choice, and legislators in Raleigh passed a bill to opt in.

Mr. Stein vetoed that, claiming it’s superfluous, because he agrees with it.  Mr. Stein’s veto message takes a swipe at “tax giveaways to wealthy parents already sending their kids to private schools.” That’s one for the teachers unions that loathe non-public schools.  

Then he adds: ‘However, I see opportunities for the federal scholarship donation tax credit program to benefit North Carolina’s public school kids. Once the federal government issues sound guidance, I intend to opt North Carolina in so we can invest in the public school students most in need of after school programs, tutoring, and other resources.’

3. THE ATLANTIC: Why Marriage Survives

“But reports of marriage’s demise are exaggerated. Rather quietly, the post-’60s family revolution appears to have ended. Divorce is down and the share of children in two-parent families is up. Marriage as a social institution is showing new strength—even among groups that drifted away from the institution in the 20th century, including Black and working-class Americans. And contrary to criticisms on the left and right, that’s good news not only for America’s kids, but also—on average, though not always—for married men and women today.”

”But on the whole, marriage confers benefits to women and men alike. According to the 2024 General Social Survey, married men and women ages 25 to 55 are more than twice as likely to be “very happy” with their life as their nonmarried peers. Married people—men and women both—live longer, are more financially secure, and build more wealth than single Americans.”

4. WORLD: Kentucky Clerk Asks Supreme Court to Overturn Landmark Same-Sex Marriage Ruling

"Kim Davis, a former Kentucky county clerk, last month formally filed a petition for the Supreme Court to reconsider its 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges decision, which legalized same-sex marriage. Davis served six days in prison in 2015 for refusing to issue a marriage license to a gay couple, which she said violated her Christian beliefs. She is also appealing a $100,000 jury verdict for emotional damages for the couple. She is also requesting a refund for $260,000 in attorney fees. In her petition, Davis says that the First Amendment should have protected her from punishment. She also argues that the Supreme Court decision was ‘egregiously wrong.’”

5. BBC: Porn Site Traffic Plummets as UK Age Verification Rules Enforced

“The number of people in the UK visiting the most popular pornography sites has decreased sharply since enhanced age verification rules came into place, new figures indicate. Data analytics firm Similarweb said leading adult site Pornhub lost more than one million visitors in just two weeks. Pornhub and other major adult websites introduced advanced age checks on 25 July after the Online Safety Act said sites must make it harder for under-18s to see explicit material.”

Weekly Prayer: Family

LORD, we cry out to you as Father. You are a model of the love, mercy, and authority of the perfect parent. We thank you for modeling for us what every parent should strive for, and for creating this wonderful institution called family.

LORD, we thank you for creating us with a basic nature designed to not be alone. You made us to desire the intimacy of relationships, and it is here where we experience joys indescribable: the joys of marriage, the joys of having children; the joys of seeing our children have children. What a blessing and mercy you gave us in the family! In it we find our first teachers, our first guardians, and our first authorities.

LORD, we recognize how deeply you love your children, and how deeply it pains you when they go astray. Alongside our adoration and thanksgiving, we pray in confession—as individuals and as members of larger communities—over any sins we may have committed that undermine your beloved institution. Forgive us when we endanger your institution through selfishness and arrogance. Forgive our communities and nation for attempting to redefine some of the most basic and deepest parts of being human—being made male and female, having lifelong marriage vows and responsibilities, and having parental rights over educating one’s children.

“Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (Colossians 3:12-17)
