Last week, I received this letter. My family’s health insurance premium is set to rise by as much as 35% next year.

I was pregnant when I finished my term as Speaker of the House, and now, with two (almost!) teenagers, I’m very proud to be running for Governor of Maine with the help of my kids.

My story isn’t unique, though. I’ve heard from Mainers across the state who have received similar letters from their insurance providers. And in rural Maine, where access is already limited, the cost of care is reaching a crisis point.

Make no mistake: This is the direct result of the Trump administration’s cuts. It’s frustrating, and it’s unsustainable.
