Email from Frankly Speaking Your choice in November can make all the difference Jack Ciattarelli’s plan to restore common sense to New Jersey’s energy policies Voting for change means voting for cheaper, reliable energy in New Jersey Whether you've lived it, or heard the stories, last month’s utility bills in New Jersey were among the highest many of us have ever seen - with some paying 25% to 30% more than just last year, and double what they paid just a few years ago. These skyrocketing costs aren’t an accident; they are the result of decisions made by Governor Murphy, Trenton Democrats, and by extension - Mikie Sherrill. Unless we change course this November, those costs will continue to rise. Here’s exactly what’s happening: Over the past eight years, Murphy and his allies have shut down multiple power plants, including Oyster Creek Nuclear Power Plant and Beesley’s Point right here in New Jersey. They also blocked a pipeline project that would have brought in cleaner, cheaper natural gas from Pennsylvania. In fact, our nuclear plants in Salem County are the only reason rates aren’t even higher. As a regional grid operator recently explained, “Higher prices are the result of a loss in electricity supply caused primarily by decarbonization policies that have led to an uptick in generator retirements”. Our state is now using more electricity - following the dismantling of the infrastructure that used to provide it! Mikie Sherrill openly supports and promotes Murphy's failed energy policies. If elected, your utility bills will climb even higher, making life harder for working-class families. Jack Ciattarelli however, has a real plan to fix this and bring costs down (not simply slow the rate of increase): Draft and implement a new Energy Master Plan that promotes an "all-of-the-above" energy policy, using every tool we have, from natural gas and nuclear to renewables, to keep rates low and the grid reliable. Repeal unrealistic and unaffordable state mandates for electric vehicle sales, household appliances, and home renovation/construction. Ban offshore wind along the Jersey Shore saving our wallets and wildlife. Withdraw New Jersey from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), which drives up energy costs with little benefit for NJ residents. Reopen or replace affordable power plants so we’re not dependent on expensive out-of-state energy. Build natural gas pipelines so New Jersey can produce more of its own cheap, reliable power. Support nuclear energy, keeping prices low for everyone. Jack Ciattarelli believes in affordable, reliable energy that works for New Jersey families. This November, your vote is the difference between higher utility bills and a plan to bring costs down. If not, Mikie Sherrill will "rubber stamp" the same Biden/Murphy policies that have already made life harder for working class families across our state. And if you think Jack can't pull this off, then "you don't know Jack"! Your vote matters. Let’s make sure we can all afford to keep the lights on.
