We’re also offering free breakfasts for veterans at The Green Room, Diana’s, Mum’s Kitchen and De-Lights.

[Twins Francesca and Danielle Hulme look delighted as they get their A-Level results]

Double distinctions and double joy as Oldham A-Level stars shine

Oldham's 'A team' has seen the number of A* and A grades, A* to C and A* to E grades improving across the board, with students now working towards a range of careers including medicine, genetics, dentistry, chemical engineering, sonography, interior design and the civil service.

At North Chadderton Sixth Form there was double the delight for identical twins Danielle and Francesca Hulme. The twins both achieved two distinctions and a C grade, and they're both off to Leeds University, Danielle to study sports therapy and Francesca to study event management.

Birthday boy Connor Beswick celebrated turning 18 by opening his results, with two distinctions in business and law and a D in English Language.

Well done and congratulations everyone, we know you will go on to achieve amazing things!

Free summer activities praised for bringing together Oldham families

It was fantastic to see the community of Derker enjoying a free fun day as part of Oldham Council’s Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme.

Children were thrilled to meet real-life heroes from Greater Manchester Police and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service – and police horses Badger and Ebenezer were a big hit.

Every child received a free lunch on arrival, courtesy of the Friends of Stoneleigh Park, who organised the event.

[Cllr Abdul Jabbar at the West End Street pitches]

A fresh chapter for much-loved community space

More waste has now been cleared from West End Street pitches as part of ongoing work to improve the area.

A big clean-up was carried out last October, but some rubbish remained – including cut-down trees. That’s now been removed to help restore this much-loved community space.

Councillor Abdul Jabbar, Deputy Leader of Oldham Council and Ward Member for Coldhurst, recently visited the site to see the latest progress.

The council is now working to secure funding for further improvements so that the pitches can be fully enjoyed once again by local residents.

Unsafe fake Labubu dolls seized by Oldham Trading Standards

Oldham Council’s Trading Standards team has seized 104 fake Labubu dolls and accessories from local shops – many of which posed serious safety risks to children.

These counterfeit toys, which copy the popular figures by Pop Mart and are trending on platforms like TikTok, were poorly made. Officers found that small parts such as hands, feet and eyes broke off easily, creating a choking hazard.

The dolls also failed basic safety checks – with some missing legally required UK safety marks and manufacturer information.

Parents are being urged to be extra cautious when buying toys that seem like a bargain. Cheap fakes like these might look the part, but they can be dangerous.

If you’re worried about toys you’ve bought, or spot anything unsafe being sold locally, report it to Trading Standards via the Consumer Helpline on 0808 223 1133.
