While Dallas City Hall plays defense on immigration enforcement, other North Texas cities are moving forward. This week, the City of Keller became the first in Tarrant County to vote unanimously in favor of partnering with ICE through the 287(g) Warrant Service Officer program. This allows trained detention officers to flag individuals already in custody for possible deportation. Keller’s mayor and council stood their ground, even as protesters demanded they back down. Their message was simple: protecting the public comes first.
Dallas, by contrast, is caught in political limbo. Chief Daniel Comeaux originally told Fox News that DPD would assist federal agencies “if it’s lawful and respectful.” But after immediate backlash from left-wing activists, he walked back the comment, saying he was only referring to felony warrants. Since then, city officials have refused to clarify anything. When residents tried to raise the issue at a City Council meeting, councilmembers said they couldn’t respond because it wasn’t on the agenda. It’s been delay after delay.
All of this comes after months of silence from City Hall. The city’s Community Police Oversight Board sent a letter asking Comeaux to explain DPD’s immigration policy. When the board tried to ask about it at a public meeting, they were shut down by a technicality. City leadership has had plenty of opportunities to speak clearly, and they’ve chosen not to.
If Keller, a smaller city with fewer resources, can take a clear stance on public safety, why can’t Dallas? Why is our leadership more afraid of activist outrage than they are of releasing dangerous criminals onto the streets? |

Keep Dallas Safe exists to address crime and homelessness in Dallas with the goal of transforming Dallas into the safest large city in Texas for residents and businesses. We aim to have a City Council that prioritizes crime rate which directly determines the quality of life in Dallas. We do this by fighting against the "defund the police" movement, holding accountable our city leaders' efforts towards lowering district crime rates, and highlighting our city's homelessness problems by pushing for enforcement of the prohibition of urban camping.
