On August 11, Governor Gavin Newsom issued a blunt warning to Donald Trump: if
Republican-led states like Texas keep gerrymandering to steal more House seats,
California will fight fire with fire—and win.

We believe in independent, nonpartisan commissions to draw fair maps. That’s
the California way—and it should be the law of the land. But we will not sit on
our hands while Trump’s allies in Texas rig the rules to lock in power. We will
not unilaterally disarm.

Texas Republicans are scheming to redraw congressional maps mid-cycle to grab
five more GOP seats before 2026—a shameless, anti-democratic heist designed to
tip the balance of power in Trump’s favor.

This isn’t just about Texas. It’s about the fight for the House—and the future
