There’s a lot of news swirling about the redistricting fight here in Texas, and I want to ground us in the facts (if you’re looking for a place to take action, please donate to our efforts now):
- Redrawing congressional maps aligns with the Census, which happens every 10 years with the next one taking place in 2030… 5 years from now.
- What’s happening right now is an unprecedented power grab by Trump with the assistance of Gov. Abbott. This isn’t about representation. It is purely an attempt to manipulate the maps to pick up seats and try to stop voters from taking Trump’s slim GOP majority in the U.S. House.
Texans have a right to fair representation. I expect Texas elected officials to take orders from and serve the people of Texas, not Donald Trump.
I said it before, and I will say it again: The difference between Republicans and Democrats in Texas right now is that Republicans will trample on your constitutional rights to hold on to political power. Democrats will risk losing their own political power to protect your constitutional rights.
So what happens now? Abbott and Trump’s MAGA map power grab will likely go back into a new special session early next week.
I guess if you don’t succeed, try and try again 😵💫 even if it is clear the public and country are vehemently against your scheme, regardless of party affiliation.
Here’s the thing: Texas Democrats have been fighting and holding the line. We need to defend Texans' right to fair representation.

Abbott knows this map is illegal. Ken Paxton knows it’s illegal. But they think if they move fast enough, they can get away with it. They’re wrong — but only if we’ve got the resources to fight them now, before the gavel drops.
