About the position 

The Minnesota Department of Human Rights and the City of Minneapolis reached a consent decree on March 31, 2023, which the court approved on July 13, 2023. 

The consent decree requires the City and Minneapolis Police Department to make transformational changes to their organizational culture by recognizing the humanity and civil rights of community members, addressing race-based policing, and strengthening public safety.

The Associate Legal Counsel will be an essential member of the team at the Minnesota Department of Human Rights tasked with enforcing the terms of the consent decree.

Salary Range: $37.98 - $56.50 / hourly; $79,302 - $117,972 / annually

Hybrid Work Environment: To promote a culture of flexibility, we offer staff a hybrid work environment with a mix of weekly in office and telework days. The Department's office is in St. Paul. Travel to off-site locations will be necessary to assess compliance of the consent decree as well as to establish and build effective relationships with stakeholders.
