Do you know what a Waymaker is, Friend?
A Waymaker is someone who stands up for kids, no matter where they come from.
A Waymaker is someone willing to walk a mile (or more) in someone else's shoes.
A Waymaker is someone like you or me, taking a step for immigrant children, in order to honor their journey.
Here's how you can Be A Waymaker: the Young Center is hosting their 5th annual Waymakers Mileage Challenge this September. This is your chance to walk, run, or roll in solidarity with immigrant children who journey to the United States in search of safety, dignity, and community.
There's two days left to lock in early bird pricing for our Waymakers Mileage Challenge! Sign up by this Saturday August 16th to lock in early bird pricing. But don't wory, if you aren't able to meet the August 16th deadline, you can still register later on.
Then, on September 1st through September 30th start walking, running or rolling on your own or with a team so we can all help the Young Center rack up a collective 20,000 miles.
Don't forget to invite your friends and loved ones to form a team and set up a page on our Runsignup platform to raise funds. Every mile logged equals $1 raised for unaccompanied immigrant children.
This is what your team fundraiser can do when you raise:
-
$50: Arrange for a telephone/video call for a detained parent and child.
- $100: Provide travel for a volunteer to visit a child in detention weekly.
-
$250: Offer a backpack & necessities for a child just released from custody.
- $500: Assist in locating detained parents of a child.
-
$1000+: Provide an international safety assessment and home study for a child being repatriated.
Every person we sign up to contribute to our overall mileage goal will make a big difference in the life of an unaccompanied immigrant child. Everybody and every step counts. Join us on this journey!
