Dear John,
As part of our World Elephant Month campaign, we’re turning the spotlight on elephants like Billy and Tina, whose stories continue to reveal the cruelty of elephant captivity.
Many NhRP supporters have already advocated for them and shared their stories–so you know that after decades of confinement, isolation, and invasive breeding attempts, Billy and Tina deserve freedom.
Instead, they were secretly transferred in May from the Los Angeles Zoo to the Tulsa Zoo. This happened despite public opposition, a pending City Council motion, and ongoing litigation to secure their release.
Since arriving at the Tulsa Zoo, both elephants have been observed swaying and bobbing their heads, an abnormal behavior that shows clear signs of psychological distress. Disturbingly, these same behaviors have also been seen in other elephants at the Tulsa Zoo, signaling a broader pattern of suffering.
Tulsa Zoo leadership now has the opportunity to do what the LA Zoo would not: put Billy and Tina’s well-being first.
Send a message to Tulsa Zoo President Lindsay Hutchison today urging her to transfer Billy and Tina to an accredited sanctuary where they can begin to heal. [[link removed]]
