Representative Adriano Espaillat Commemorates 90 Years of Social Security
NEW YORK, NY – Today, Representative Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) joined House Democrats to celebrate 90 years of Social Security and oppose Republicans’ plan to cut benefits while handing out more tax breaks for the wealthy.
“90 years ago, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act into law, and in that time, the program has provided millions across our nation with comprehensive retirement, disability, and survivors benefits,” said Espaillat.
“Now, the Trump Administration and ‘DOGE’ are taking an axe to the Social Security Administration, cutting staff and services for seniors and putting Americans’ hard-earned benefits at risk. President Trump and Elon Musk may call Social Security a ‘Ponzi scheme,’ but the American people know the truth. While Republicans continue to try to slash and privatize Social Security, the more than 70 million Americans who rely on their hard-earned benefits need them to be enhanced, not cut.
“I know how important Social Security is to the 118,000 recipients in my District, and I will continue to work with my Democratic colleagues to protect Social Security for our seniors, veterans, and children - and defend it against these Republican attacks,” he concluded.
