<p><strong>Trump is trying to steal the 2026 midterm elections.</strong> Here’s how: The White House is trying to order a new census that the ACLU says would <strong>“defy the Constitution.”</strong><sup><small>1</small></sup> Trump says he wants to make the unprecedented move to exclude non-citizens from the count, which he claims will be “highly accurate.”<sup><small>2,3</small></sup></p>
<p><strong>Trump is pressuring states to gerrymander away Democratic-leaning U.S. House seats</strong>. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who has threatened protesting state Democratic lawmakers with arrest, says he won’t stop until the GOP’s unconstitutional gerrymandering plan becomes law.<sup><small>4</small></sup></p>
<p>The GOP’s SAVE Act is also pending a vote in the Senate. It would be one of the most dangerous federal voter suppression laws in modern times, potentially disenfranchising millions of people. <p>Trump’s brazen attempt to rig the midterm elections comes after years of baseless claims that the 2020 election was stolen from him. <strong>Republican disinformation campaigns pushing baseless lies about supposed non-citizen voting have laid the groundwork for Trump’s efforts to steal the 2026 elections.</strong></p>
<p>In addition to extreme GOP gerrymandering and a new census, the SAVE Act could disenfranchise millions of voters. The bill would require people to prove that they’re citizens in order to vote by providing a birth certificate, passport, or naturalization papers. 21 million eligible voters don’t have these documents readily available.<sup><small>5</small></sup></p>
