We wanted to give you a frank update on where things stand, John:
Donald Trump and Texas Republicans are making an unprecedented power grab to steal congressional seats and rig the 2026 election before voting even begins .
Other Republican states are following suit. They want to steal enough seats to control Congress, regardless of how the people vote. This isn’t politics as usual. It’s an emergency for our democracy.
That’s why Democratic members of Congress and state legislators in California are rallying behind Governor Newsom’s calls to put forward a statewide ballot measure to counter Texas’ moves. This isn’t going to be an easy fight. It will be hard. It may be expensive.
But the alternative is letting Republicans eliminate enough blue seats to make retaking the U.S. House Majority impossible. We can’t roll over and let that happen. That’s why we are asking: Will you rush an emergency donation to our Redistricting Fund today? [[link removed]]

CHIP IN $ >> [[link removed]]Here are some key components of California’s plan to fight back that could go before the voters in November:
➡️ If Texas and other Republican-led states rig their district maps to elect more Republicans to Congress next year, California will adjust our own boundaries to keep representation fair and stop the GOP from stacking the system to cling to power.
➡️ It affirms California’s commitment to national redistricting reform – retaining California’s Citizen Redistricting Commission for the regular redistricting after the 2030 census.
➡️ It keeps California’s current commission-drawn maps if Texas and other red states retain their current maps .
Our country desperately needs a check on Trump’s power. If Texas and other Republican-held states try to rig the rules to elect more Republicans to Congress in next year’s elections, California has a duty to the country to stand up and take action.
Preliminary polling shows a strong majority of Californians would support this type of initiative, but the campaign will need real resources to win and fight back against inevitable attacks from Trump and the far-right.
That’s why we are emailing you asking for an emergency donation today. We might need to prepare for a special election we weren’t planning for, and then need to redo some of our critical campaign planning with a redrawing of our districts. Will you pitch in $ or more now? [[link removed]]
