Welcome to the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Violence Solutions’ series, Solutions in Action, where we share examples of the work our team is doing to make communities safe from gun violence. An important part of our mission is to advance lifesaving gun violence prevention policies in states across the country. Our state advocacy team works in 22 states and the District of Columbia.
We partner with state-based organizations to further gun safety state-by-state. Over the last three years, our research and advocacy helped pass over 35 gun violence prevention laws.
These included measures on safe firearm storage, domestic violence firearm relinquishment, community violence intervention funding, and many more. |
🌟 In the past year, our team: -
Drafted legislation for 12 new gun violence prevention bills for state policymakers
- Provided testimony 14 times to ensure lawmakers had necessary facts and data to advocate for lifesaving policies
-
Met with 83 legislators in 9 states to educate policymakers about evidence-based solutions to gun violence
- Provided materials and participated in 8 gun violence prevention advocacy days in state capitols to stand with community leaders
-
Wrote comprehensive state policy road maps for states, such as Indiana and Michigan, with more in process for other states in the coming year
- Translated Center research into fact sheets highlighting evidence for proposed state legislation
