Dear John,

Frontline Communities Are Leading the Way!

While the Trump administration continues to attack working-class families, migrants, and democracy itself, frontline communities are forging ahead with bold new paths toward justice and resilience that benefit everyone.

In Brooklyn, NY, UPROSE, a Climate Justice Alliance member group, is proving that community power can deliver real victories. We’re celebrating the construction kick-off of Sunset Park Solar—New York City’s first-ever community-led solar project—on the rooftop of the Brooklyn Army Terminal.

This milestone was made possible through the unshakable vision and determination of UPROSE, along with support from Reinvest in Our Power, a Climate Justice Alliance-led collaborative effort to shift capital and governance from extractive to regenerative systems.

Led by UPROSE in partnership with Working Power, this project is more than solar panels—it’s a milestone for energy democracy, a model where frontline communities control the clean energy transition.

Sunset Park Solar features a 725 kW rooftop array that will deliver discounted electricity to local residents and small businesses—while reinvesting directly into the Sunset Park neighborhood. It’s a declaration of energy equity, community ownership, and local resilience.

For over 50 years, UPROSE—Brooklyn’s oldest Latino-led community organization focused on climate justice—has been a force in this movement. With Working Power, they’re pioneering a new model of community ownership, ensuring that the benefits of solar energy stay in the hands of those who live and work in Sunset Park—not distant corporations.

We’re honored to stand with UPROSE and all frontline communities who are showing what’s possible when we lead with justice.

Power to the people. Energy for the future.
