Did you know that the massive empty parking lot you drive by all the time is required to be there by law? Yes, by law. Don’t we deserve something better than an abandoned car park?
We know that not every home, complex, or business has the same number of visitors; location, area demographics, prices, and so many other things affect how much traffic a building has. Therefore, it’d make sense for different amounts of parking to exist in these different places. However, all cities have a book of codes dictating how their land is used, and most of these include one-size-fits-all parking requirements. This means that the giant, unneeded sea of asphalt you pass every day is there because a parking law said it had to be built, even though that much parking wasn’t needed for the area.
What we want are people-friendly neighborhoods, where we can walk to our favorite places without deserts of empty pavement. If you want better for your kids, dogs, and lifestyle, sign our petition to prioritize people over parking!
