Team,
90 years ago today, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act into law, establishing one of the greatest promises our country has ever made to the people: That we will care for our seniors, our disabled neighbors, and families facing the unimaginable loss of a loved one.
Now, that promise is under attack, and we have to fight back before it’s too late.
The Trump administration is quietly dismantling Social Security from the inside. 7,000 Social Security workers have been fired. Field offices across the country are closing. Some people in his administration say it’s “no big deal” if a senior misses a Social Security check, even though we know so many rely on their Social Security checks to fill prescriptions, buy food, and pay utility bills.
This week, I joined AARP Michigan’s Rise and Rally for Social Security and joined Senator Bernie Sanders at a Social Security Town Hall because the stakes couldn’t be higher.
I know I have a target on my back, but I will not stand down from this fight — not now, not ever. If you can today, please chip in a few dollars to my campaign to fuel my work. [[link removed]]
In Congress, I’m leading the effort to pass legislation that defends and protects Social Security even further. It’s been more than 50 years since we’ve seen a real boost to this vital program. With your support, I’m pushing for solutions that will:
Block the Trump administration from closing more Social Security field offices and cutting people off from accessing services in person
Codify privacy protections for Social Security recipients so their private data is protected
Expand and protect benefits for seniors and future generations
2.3 million Michiganders, including more than 137,000 children, depend on Social Security every single month. And every single day, I will fight to protect those benefits from the billionaires and Republicans who want to gut this program.
Will you stand with me today and support our fight to protect and expand Social Security by making a contribution? Your support means I can keep focused on my work in Congress to stand up and fight for the programs and issues that matter to you. [[link removed]]
