In November, three justices, originally elected as Democrats, are nearing the end of their 10-year terms, and Republicans are leading an anti-retention campaign to unseat these justices from the bench.

With just over 2 months left until Election Day, we are laying the groundwork for NPP’s Get-Out-The-Vote (GOTV) door-knocking program now, and we need your help to kick things off. With your support, we can ensure voters know what’s on the ballot and why their vote is so powerful.

PA is only one of seven states that votes for all judges and justices in partisan elections. With the legislative and executive branches usurping their authorities and putting the priorities of billionaires over the good of the people, it is the courts that people historically have turned to for justice. That is why it’s so critical that we work to ensure the PA courts remain fair and independent.

We need your help to launch our critical Get-Out-The-Vote program ahead of the highly consequential November elections. Chip in $25 to support our work today →

Fellow activist,

The month of August is an essential time as we lead up to the highly consequential judicial elections in November. Now is when we lay the groundwork for NPP’s Get-Out-The-Vote (GOTV) door-knocking program to ensure that our centered communities understand what’s on the ballot and why their vote is so powerful – and we are counting on your support.

Three justices, originally elected as Democrats, are nearing the end of their 10-year terms, and Republicans are leading an anti-retention campaign to unseat these justices from the bench.

If they are successful, this could have a drastic impact on the future of PA – where decisions made by the State Supreme Court impact everything from abortion access to voting rights, environmental protections, education funding, and more. Help us prepare to launch a massive GOTV program by donating $25 today →

State courts are different and separate from federal courts. While justices on the U.S. Supreme Court are nominated by the President and confirmed by the U.S. Senate, here in PA, state court judges and justices are elected in partisan elections and serve a 10-year term. After their 10-year term, voters will decide to retain them or not through non-partisan retention elections. In a non-partisan retention election, Pennsylvania voters will vote “yes” or “no” for the judges and justices to stay on the bench or not. PA is one of only seven states in the entire country that votes for all judges and justices in partisan elections.

Additionally, while the federal court system mainly handles cases related to the constitutionality of laws, the state court systems have a much broader impact and serve as the final authority on state laws and constitutions. That is why it’s critical that PA courts remain fair and independent.

Here’s the deal: When the legislative branch and the executive branch are usurping their authorities and putting the priorities of billionaires over the good of the people, it is the courts that people historically have turned to for justice. Whether it’s ensuring that PA has fair congressional maps or protecting our election systems, the rulings that state courts make have a drastic impact on our daily lives, and it’s critical that people understand how important state courts are and how they’re protecting our rights and freedoms.
