At 10:00 a.m. on Monday, Donald Trump announced an unprecedented and dangerous move: he is federalizing the DC Police and deploying the National Guard—against the will of our elected leaders and the people of Washington, D.C.

Trump claims this is about crime. But according to the U.S. Department of Justice, violent crime in DC is at a 30-year low. This isn’t about safety—it’s about control. This is a staged political stunt designed to seize power in the nation’s capital and send a chilling message to other cities across the country.

Trump says he is “liberating” DC, but make no mistake—he is the biggest threat to our freedom. If we don’t stop him here, he will use this same playbook to undermine democracy in cities and states everywhere.

The DC Democratic Party is mobilizing to fight back—through legal action, organizing, and national advocacy. But this fight will be long and expensive, and we need every Democrat who believes in self-governance to step up right now.
