Dear John,
Elon Musk’s DOGE scheme was allegedly going to root out government waste. Instead, it literally torched taxpayer dollars, resulted in massive federal layoffs, and cut funding to vital programs and research.
Now, after a mean girls-style public breakup with Trump, Musk wants a new sweetheart deal for him and his investors. Who better to take advantage of than a starry eyed, fanboy like Bill Lee? Let’s be honest - Lee, no stranger to secret privatization deals, was an easy target.
Lee is giving Musk and his Boring Company state property for 50 years to use century-old technology to dig a tunnel to operate an underground taxi service — with no oversight, regulation or price controls and zero public input or transparency.
This tunnel isn’t an “innovative” solution for public transit. The Boring Company’s so-called Vegas Loop was a congested, single-lane death trap that OSHA flagged for serious workplace safety violations. Now Tennessee Republicans — including Gov. Lee, Speaker Sexton, and Sen. Massey — are threatening Nashville’s underground infrastructure for another Musk boondoggle while our neighbors face skyrocketing grocery prices, brutal cuts to SNAP and TennCare, and an ever-growing healthcare and childcare crisis.
