Israel has announced its intention to “take control” of Gaza City, forcing out the people sheltering there and escalating its genocidal campaign to an already-devastated part of Gaza where around one million people are sheltering. (1)
Reports suggest that Israel plans to force people to the southern tip of Gaza, where Israel has made plans for what one former Israeli PM has labelled a “concentration camp” for Palestinians. (2)
In recent weeks, the UK government has ramped up its rhetoric criticising Israel – and ministers want us to think they are taking action to stop Israel’s attacks. But this is a long way from the truth.

It is clear that only material action will make a difference: Israel cannot be talked into stopping this genocide, it must be forced through material sanctions. This must include a complete arms embargo as well as deep economic sanctions to undermine Israel’s war economy.
The UK is one of Israel’s top five trade partners – and if it led with economic sanctions, other countries may well be encouraged to follow. David Lammy has already been forced to suspend talks over a new trade deal with Israel – but we must push this government much further. (3)
The UK government is trying to convince the British public that it cares about Palestinians and has done all it can to stop Israel’s attacks – but through their continued arms sales and their failure to use forceful sanctions, our leaders are complicit in this genocide.
