A message from Council Leader, Councillor Neghat Khan
Congratulations to all the students receiving their A-Level results this week – I wish you the very best in whatever comes next.
We’ve also got plenty to look forward to this weekend, including the return of Nottingham Carnival, bringing colour, culture, and community spirit to our city once again.
And finally, a reminder that big changes are being proposed to how local services are delivered across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. Today, I’ve shared why Nottingham is exploring new boundary options as part of the Local Government Reorganisation. It’s not about land grabs – it’s about getting the best outcome for residents and ensuring services remain sustainable.

Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) will reshape the way services are delivered across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. As we look ahead, it's vital we do so based on facts, not outdated assumptions.
Cllr Khan sets out why Nottingham City Council is exploring new boundary options as part of the LGR process – and what this could mean for residents, services and future growth.
“None of the current councils will exist – new councils will come in their place. So, this isn’t about the city council land-grabbing. What’s needed now is a mature approach to what is best for the region, not for me personally, but for you, the people of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. This is about long-term sustainability, and a thriving city supports the whole county, not just the city. "
- Our boundaries currently exclude hundreds of thousands who rely on us
- We are financially stable – and improving fast
- Any future model must support long-term growth and better outcomes for residents
 Carnival this weekend!
- Sunday 17 August 2025 | 1pm-8pm
