I’ve been a political activist since high school, when a U.S. government class and Model UN first opened my eyes to how the rules we live by shape everything—from our daily lives to the health of our planet. That path led me to political science in college and a career as an organizer, whether it was fighting for local zoning reform or protecting the environment from pollution.

Another way I stay involved today is as a Kennebec Friend monthly donor with Maine Conservation Voters (MCV). MCV is on the front lines defending our democracy from powerful interests—including fighting back against dangerous policies that would make it harder for Mainers to vote. Your monthly gift will give MCV the steady resources they need to protect voting rights, advance climate action, and hold elected leaders accountable.

I believe a healthy democracy is essential to protecting the environment. Without it, powerful industries would gladly put profit ahead of clean air, clean water, and healthy communities. This year alone, MCV helped secure funding for climate resilience, blocked rollbacks and exemptions to Maine’s waste laws, and pushed forward efforts to remove toxic PFAS chemicals from our environment.

MCV has a goal to recruit 25 new monthly donors to power their year-round advocacy for the environment in Maine, our democracy, and the future for generations to come. As an added bonus, every dollar you donate will be matched 12 times–your $10 monthly gift, or $120 annually, would be $240, but only if you start your monthly gift by September 22.
