Six from SiX brings you monthly updates highlighting the power of state legislators in deep collaboration with their communities and resources to support you in this work.

** SiX at the National Conference for State Legislators (NCSL)
------------------------------------------------------------

We had so much fun connecting with everyone at #NCSL50! Thank you all for coming to our reception on Day 1. Spending time with partners and friends left us with reenergized spirits and dear memories. And if you weren’t able to make it, we missed you and hope to catch you soon!

** State Impacts of the Big Ugly Law
------------------------------------------------------------

Trump’s Big Ugly Law is a budget dream come true for billionaires and corporate lobbyists and a nightmare for states. The nearly 900-page bill poses brutal consequences, especially for working-class people. From increasing poverty and hunger to taking health coverage away from 17 million people, this bill accelerates Trump’s inhumane and disastrous anti-immigrant agenda while giving costly tax cuts to the wealthy and corporations.

You can read our re-cap of the bill below ([link removed]) . Our friends at Fair Share America have also created shareable state-by-state impact graphics ([link removed])) and a Big Ugly Bill timeline summary ([link removed])) that you can share with your communities.

** Welcome CROP Northeast!
------------------------------------------------------------
A regenerative farm spreads toward the horizon.

We are excited to announce the launch of CROP Northeast, SiX’s first-ever regional organizing cohort. Under the leadership of CROP member, SiX consultant, and Former Vermont Representative Mike Rice, CROP members and Northeastern legislators joined a recent kick-off call to begin strategizing and organizing.

CROP Northeast will meet regularly to support rural communities in the Northeast, build cross-state relationships among Northeastern state legislators, and develop coordinated regional policies for sustainable cross-state food and farm systems.

If you are a Northeastern state legislator and are interested in joining this group, please reach out to the SiX Agriculture and Food Systems team at [email protected]!

** Funding our Futures: Tax Justice in the States
------------------------------------------------------------
[link removed]

From the severe impacts of Trump’s megabill to the growing racial and economic divides in wealth, it’s clear that the U.S. is facing challenges on multiple fronts.

By fighting for tax justice, though, states can boldly meet these challenges. On the state level, we have the power to pass sensible tax policies that support essential programs for working families by making sure that the ultra-wealthy and corporations contribute their fair share.

Whether you are a state legislator, policy expert, or grassroots organization, the tax fight is your fight. Are you ready to join it? SiX and our partners at State Revenue Alliance tackled exactly how we do this work in a past webinar.

** SiX’s Latina Caucus
------------------------------------------------------------

Recently, SiX held our second Reproductive Freedom Leadership Council (RFLC) Latina Caucus meeting, a powerful space for connection and solidarity. Legislators from Arizona, Michigan, Iowa, Maryland, New York, California, and Illinois gathered to honor the immense grief of Latino communities, who have been violently impacted by ICE and family separations in their states. Legislators also strategized for a Hispanic Heritage Month Resolution and shared resources for building care-centered policies.

If you’re a Latina legislator interested in joining SiX’s Latina Caucus, please reach out to the SiX Reproductive Rights team at [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]?subject=SiX's%20Latina%20Caucus&body=) .

** SiX’s Summer Break
------------------------------------------------------------

SiX knows that rest and recovery are a vital part of continuing to show up for the work that we do. Starting August 18, we will be closed for our two-week summer break. Don’t worry though! On September 2, we will be back in the office, recharged and ready to go!

State legislators, if you’d like to go deeper into SiX’s issue areas, join our legislator cohorts: the Economic Power Project ([link removed]) , the Cohort for Rural Opportunity ([link removed]) and Prosperity, and the Reproductive Freedom Leadership Council! ([link removed])
