The last three months have been so eventful — from responding to the coronavirus pandemic and its devastating impact on our health and our economy to witnessing and responding to the death of George Floyd and engaging in the national conversation on race and justice that has followed.
Of the many important things before us, one thing has been clear: how much we need leaders who will help us navigate these challenging times with thoughtful policy, effective administration, unending compassion, and unifying vision.
It is our job to elect them.
And that is why I am writing to you today. Because November will be here before we know it. And this re-election campaign will be one of the most competitive (in campaign terms, that means expensive) in the country.
So, I am asking you today to help me make sure we have the funds we need to win. I don’t like to ask — especially right now — but I don’t like the idea of seeing the House of Representatives turned into the House of Trump even more. And that is what is at stake.
June 30 represents the end of the second quarter, and we will once again prepare a report for the Federal Election Commission (FEC) of all the contributions to our campaign over the last three months. Lots of people will look at those reports for signs of strength of the campaign — and having a strong report means a strong campaign. That success brings more success, so contributing by the deadline really does matter.
If you can, will you make a contribution today?
I am not just asking because it will look good. I am asking because it will matter. We need to raise the funds now because we will need to spend them soon. How will we spend your money? Responsibly. Carefully. Strategically. We will spend every dollar getting out the campaign’s message out whether by hiring staff to help direct volunteers in making calls and sharing information or putting ads on TV, online, and on the radio or sending mail to mailboxes.
Contributions make our campaign possible. Can I count on you to contribute before Tuesday’s FEC deadline?
These last few months have reminded us of how much is at stake for all of us now, and how much is on the ballot in November. I am grateful for the winning team that we put together in 2018. And I know we can do it again in 2020.
Together we can do anything,
