Tomorrow, Social Security turns 90 years old. We normally celebrate with cake and parties, but this year we have no choice but to celebrate with resistance.
Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s DOGE forced out thousands of Social Security Administration staff, including 20% of the staff from Social Security field offices. Beneficiaries are facing hours-long lines at offices and record wait times for the 1-800 number. There are also increasing reports of service disruptions.
Trump and DOGE’s mismanagement is intentional. Trump’s Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano is a self-described “DOGE person” who has removed data tracking wait times from Social Security’s website in hopes people will believe his lies about improved customer service. And Trump’s Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent recently admitted that the administration is pursuing the “backdoor privatization of Social Security.”
Their goal is to break Social Security, then say it isn’t working so they can hand it over to Wall Street.
Right now I’m in Montana, crisscrossing the state, speaking with voters, and demanding the Trump administration stop breaking Social Security. We’re also organizing “Protect Our Checks” rallies in swing states and congressional districts across the country to hold Trump and Republicans accountable.
We’re demanding Congress and the White House protect Social Security for the next 90 years.
